1989 was a great year for sneakers. It was the year the Air Jordan 4 took flight; Reebok began to pump it up, and British Knights had a big one hit wonder as catchy as Young MC’s Bust A Move.
It was also the year I purchased my first pair of Nike Air kicks, the Air Trainer III. Click here for my OG retelling of how I acquired said sneakers.
In 2019, a recent re-up of the medicine ball Air Trainer III ensued, but alas the OG sneakerfeels could not be resuscitated.
A recent metaphorical coming out of the closet occurred when I went in search for a missing Stance sock dance partner. Dang those L R specific sock pairings.
A quick glance at some of my DS pairs of sneakers would have been a sneakerheads Yo! MTV raps dream back in 1989, when my friends and I dreamed of owning just one pair of fly kicks.
As I turn down the dial to Bust A Move, hop out of my DeLorean, and revisit 1989, I can almost hear my friends saying,
“You’ve Changed Bro.”
